God & Good Government

Proverbs 28:2-16 & 28

Main points:-

  • God wants us to treat others well and to have a clear conscience.
  • We need to seek justice and avoid wickedness.
  • Good Government gives rise to happiness and prosperity, bad Government can be oppressive and people suffer.
  • Honesty and openness to God will give us a heart to build strong communities.

Questions for individuals and home groups:-

  • Do we believe in an absolute moral code?    If not, how can we condemn wickedness and injustice?
  • In terms of how we treat others, do we have clear consciences?
  • Is our motivation self centred or do we seek God’s help in showing us what is right and what is wrong?
  • Are our goals and priorities in line with God’s ways and character?

God Can Set you free!

Readings:- Proverbs 23:29-24:4

Main points:-

  • Proverbs speaks of the dangers of addiction and the positive effects of Wisdom
  • Jesus explains about slavery and sin
  • We are only truly set free in Christ

Questions for individuals and home groups:-

  • What things tie our lives up?
  • What are the practical ways forward for finding freedom in Christ?
  • How can we help each other to be free?
  • How can we support not only those struggling with addiction but also those who are in a support role?

Family Relationships

Proverbs 17:1-14 & 21-28

Main points: Happiness in a family is reliant upon:

  • Loving each other
  • Accepting each other
  • Sharing with each other
  • Conceding

Questions for home groups:-

  • How easy is it to accept the behaviour of members of our family? Give examples
  • When is is right to concede in an argument in order to keep the peace?
  • In our busy lives, how can we make sure we spend quality time with each other, with those at home and those that live elsewhere?
  • How much do we perceive other Christians around the world to be part of the same spiritual family?

Pastor Gideon MubiruOn 16th October at the 10:30am Family Service we were delighted to welcome Gideon Mubiru from the Gideon Anti-Aids Foundation in Uganda who spoke briefly about the work of GAAF and led the congregation in a participative demonstration of African drumming

The Gideon Anti-Aids Foundation was founded by Pastor Gideon Mubiru with Harry Eccles in response to the plight of the people around him suffering from HIV/AIDS. It was registered as a charity in 2009.

Since then the Foundation has been recognised by the President of Uganda for its work to combat the spread of AIDS.  The GAAF vision is:

To promote human values through advocacy and community outreach programs.

To support the orphaned child by giving them an opportunity to realise their full potential and capabilities.

GAAF Aims:

  • to sensitize people in Uganda about HIV/AIDS.
  • to promote community development
  • to provide HIV/AIDS counselling
  • to sensitize communities to the plight of vulnerable children and youth
  • to provide foster care and life skills for vulnerable children and youth
  • to provide child sponsorship for orphans and vulnerable children.
