Death Watch Beetle treatment

August 2010

Earlier this year evidence of death-watch beetle activity was noticed around the pews in the south aisle of the church.  A survey was carried out by experienced contractors Death Watch Beetle treatment who recommended that a programme of treatment be carried out.  This involves a gel coating which is applied to the wood which is then covered up and left for a number of weeks to take effect.

Although the cost of the treatment is an additional burden for which we receive no financial support from any other sources, the church council is pleased to exercise its duty of care for this Grade 1 listed building in funding this work.  In doing so we hope to be able to prevent the spread of this devastating pest into more structural timber where remedial work would be extremely costly.  Please contact us if you would like further information or if you would like to make a donation to the cost of this work.  As pictured above the south aisle pews will be unavailable for use for some weeks whilst the contractors are at work.

Welcome to St. Mary's

We are the Church of England (Anglican) parish church in the village of Haddenham in Buckinghamshire. St. Mary's, Haddenham is the largest parish in the benefice of Haddenham with Cuddington, Kingsey and Aston Sandford and is part of the Diocese of Oxford. We are also responsible for the ground-breaking Cafeplus+ initiative which meets monthly in the village.

Our church services offer a variety of worship styles and activities to suit everyone. Children are very welcome. There is a crèche room for the very young in church, and also Children's Church during the Sunday mid-morning services. There is a loop system in church for those with hearing difficulties.

Our magnificently situated church building has been home for many years to a thriving Christian community. We hope that, if you are able to visit or join us, you will find space to discover more about God and the Christian faith, time for prayer and reflection, and also the opportunity to make new friends. Our aim is to be outward looking, open to all, and to share the love of God in Jesus Christ with those around us.

Congratulations

to St Mary's parishioners Colin and Jack Brackley on completing their cycle ride from Lands End to John O' Groats in aid of kidney cancer research.  Here are the pictures to prove it - 875 miles in 12 days - a fantastic achievement - well done!! It's not too late to donate..click here!
