to St Mary's
We aim to be a church where everyone can make friends and find their place. At St Mary's you will find space to discover more about God and the Christian faith, have time for prayer and reflection as well as make new friends. Our role in the community is very important to us and we seek to support local and wider communities through our lives, prayer and action in the love of Christ.
Coronavirus - Church building closed
Following government guidance, the Church of England has taken the decision that all church services must now be suspended. This means that there will be no services at St Mary’s church for the foreseeable future and the church building will no longer be open everyday.
Opening the church for Private Prayer
From July 8th, the church will be open for private prayer once a week on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 2 pm. This follows a detailed risk assessment of the church to apply the Guidance from the Diocese. There will be social distancing in place, many areas of the church will be inaccessible and only a limited number of pews will be available. The toilet and kitchen will NOT be in use. You may need to wait outside the building for a short while if no space is available .
Further guidance from the Government on possible reopening of churches for services is awaited, and guidance from the Church of England will then follow. There is much to be considered. The most important thing is to prepare prayerfully, thoroughly, carefully and locally, with clergy and PCCs consulting together about how to resume public worship. We are advised that this should not be rushed and we are not planning any services at St Mary’s before September.
