Holy Week for St Mary's, Haddenham
Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter. On Maundy Thursday (29 March) we have a Maundy Thursday morning communion service in the Catholic Church at 10.30am. We also have a joint Maundy Thursday communion service at Kingsey Church at 7.30pm. This is a very special service. On Good Friday, (30 March) we meet at Townsend Green at 10.15am for a walk of witness to St Mary's church for an 11.00am joint service with the other churches in the village.
What is happening on Easter Sunday?
Easter Sunday (1 April) will be extra special as we will follow the story of the very first Resurrection Day. At 6.30am on St Mary's school field there will be a dawn service followed by breakfast at the Baptist church. We will also have an 8.30am early communion service in St Mary's church. At these services we will especially remember Mary who went to the tomb at daybreak and met the risen Jesus.
Mary then hurried back to tell everyone that "Jesus is Risen" and during the morning (9.30am-12noon) we will have a very special Easter at Cafeplus+ in the Village Hall, so that we can celebrate Jesus' resurrection with the whole community. We will have craft activities for the children, a special Easter Passover experience in the quiet space, a film and many other activities including an egg and spoon race and an Easter Bonnet Parade - so dress up your hat for the occasion!
In the evening the disciples gathered in the upper room and they were filled with joy when they met with the risen Jesus. We are going to meet at 6.30pm in St Mary's church for an amazing Easter Sunday communion service. There will be musicians and singers and so much to celebrate. It will be the most wonderful way to end a very special Easter Sunday!
